First Edition
The thumbnail is a lie, I’ve only read the first edition, published in the year of our lord, 1990. It was a surprisingly easy read for a psych book. I suppose you could argue that Twerski is only has an MD, and not a psychology degree, & therefore his easy to read words are worthless. I’d say that’s wrong. I think that Twerski’s understanding of addiction holds true. Addiction is layered, and brought about by lies we tell ourselves. Loops we stumble into, and cannot seem to escape. Addiction is attached to many ideas in mental illness. Healthy social habits, work-life balance, self respect, codependency. This book really helped me identify patterns that I could improve on, and showed me just how much more learning I have to do. I’ve got a second edition in the mail, and I’m gonna have to take notes on it, so I will be updating this.
